Thanksgiving and Christmas are prime cheesy movie time. In fact, sitting down to watch all of the romantic Hallmark and Lifetime holiday movies is one of my sister and I’s favorite holiday traditions. There’s something so nostalgic about being able to predict the endings of all of the movies, but still being glued to the on-screen drama from start to finish.
Luckily for all of us, Hallmark has released their holiday movie lineup for the year, and it has everything: A gingerbread house competition, love triangles, celebrity crushes, ice sculpting, and even a midnight kiss. Classic. And we’ll see some repeat appearances from some of our favorite Hallmark actresses like Lacey Chabert and Candace Cameron Bure.
The “Countdown to Christmas” begins on Saturday, October 28 and runs through Saturday, December 30. Oh, and it includes 21 all-new premieres, so set your DVR, grab some popcorn and get ready for some serious sap!
Here are my Top 10 Picks from Hallmark’s 2017 Holiday Movie Lineup:
1. Marry Me at Christmas
Debuting on October 28 at 8/7c, this Hallmark romance is all about a bridal boutique owner who falls for one of her client’s brothers…who happens to be a famous movie star– but “will he be brave enough to take on the role of a lifetime?” WE’LL SEE!
2. Christmas Festival of Ice
This one airs on November 4 and starts off with some serious drama: The main character, Emma, finds out that her hometown’s beloved ice-sculpting contest has been cancelled. I KNOW. Of course, Emma steps in to try to save the day, and OF COURSE she meets a fella named “Nick,” the town’s best artisan– but he’s not interested in competing this year. What will Emma do!?!
3. Miss Christmas
Now this is a good one. Holly, our main character, does an annual search for the National Tree for Washington D.C.’s Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony. In her search, she travels to a small town in New England that boasts to have the best evergreens. Of course, the land she wants to get the tree from is owned by a handsome man who refuses to let her take a tree off the property, causing some serious holiday drama.
4. The Sweetest Christmas
“The Sweetest Christmas” is about a struggling pastry chef named Kylie who finds out she makes it to the finals of the American Gingerbread Competition (say what?!), but the oven she’s supposed to use BREAKS DOWN right before the contest. The only person she can think of who has an oven that will work in its place is her ex-boyfriend from culinary school, who happens to own an industrial pizza oven. But of course, we know they’ll heat up more than just pastries!
5. Enchanted Christmas
You can tell from the teaser image that this one is a winner. Our main character, Laura, has a daughter who is introduced to the art of salsa dancing at a studio that happens to be run by Laura’s high school sweetheart, Ricardo. The two reconnect and sparks fly on (and off) the dance floor.
6. With Love, Christmas
In this holiday romance, Melanie is an advertising executive who is partnered up with her uptight coworker, Donovan, as they’re tasked with the job of developing a holiday commercial for a new cell phone. Oh and to make matters more complicated, Donovan is Melanie’s secret Santa recipient! GASP!
7. The Mistletoe Inn
Kim is an aspiring author who gets dumped. Rough start. But then she signs up for a writing retreat where she meets Zeke– but then guess who else is at the retreat? Her ex. “Equally unexpected is the attraction that seems to be building between her and Zeke that promises to take her down a road she never imagined traveling,” Hallmark says. Profound.
8. Coming Home for Christmas
In this film, our main character, Allie, finds herself at a crossroads when she lands a job as a house manager at a fancy estate in Virginia. Of course, she is pursued by not one but TWO men in the family. Will she be able to help mend family feuds AND teach the true spirit of Christmas? Who knows!
9. Switched For Christmas
I legitimately really like Candace Cameron Bure, so I’ll be tuning in for this one for sure. She and her identical twin (who are estranged, by the way) are unhappy and frustrated with their love lives, but they’re both jealous of each others lives. Confused yet? They then decide to swap lives until Christmas Day, allowing both women to “discover the true meaning of her life and gain a deeper perspective and appreciation for what she already had.”
10. When Calls The Heart: The Christmas Wishing Tree
This movie based off the series, “When Calls The Heart,” features the same characters from the show as they help a young man find Christmas inspiration through an “enchanted wishing tree.” Interesting, right? The plot is a little confusing, but basically they all band together to create the town’s annual Christmas celebration and they’re all reminded that “family is the true meaning of Christmas.”
To be honest, I only really care about this one because it stars Aunt Becky from “Full House.”
Like I mentioned before, there are 21 all-new premieres happening throughout Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities for a movie binge! You can start the binge this Saturday, October 28, and enjoy them all the way through December 30!
