We’ve heard some crazy stories of contestants on “Jeopardy” winning by $1, but Manny Abell beat out his two opponents with $1, something that has only happened once before in the history of the game show.
According to the “Jeopardy” website, an Air Force Lieutenant, Colonel Darryl Scott, won the Double Jeopardy round in 1993 with $1. His fellow competitor, Kate Marciniak, was still a factor in the game when Darryl went for the win. “Boy, you guys are gutsy today,” Alex Trebek said of the all-or-nothing wagers before he revealed Darryl’s final response. No one came up with the correct question, but at the end of the game, Darryl was left standing with a dollar.
This time, Manny was a returning champ who was in third place at the end of the second round of play, while the other two players were tied for first place. Next thing you know, he was left standing with $1 and the others had $0, leaving Manny as the big winner.
“Jeopardy” says there are a couple of takeaways from the game, including “First, a Jeopardy! champ is a Jeopardy! champ. Once you’ve earned the title, no one can take it away from you.”
Right, because the pride of a job well done is better than taking home $50k– SURE, Jeopardy.
