Jimmy Fallon Returns, Gives Emotional Tribute To His Late Mother, Gloria: “I’ll Never Stop Trying To Make You Laugh”

On his first TV appearance since the loss of his mother Gloria, Jimmy Fallon thanked everyone for their support for his family over the last few weeks, and opened up about the life and loss of his mother.

“When we were little, my mom would walk us to the store, and we would hold hands,” he said. “She would squeeze my hand three times and say “I love you” and I would squeeze back and say “I love you, too.” Last week I was in the hospital at her side and I squeezed “I love you” and I just knew we were in trouble.”

He went on to thank everyone for the support they’ve shown his family through the loss, saying, “I feel so grateful to be able to do this every single night…we’re going to continue to work really hard to bring some light and some laughter into the world.”

He closed with a message to his mother: “Mom, I’ll never stop trying to make you laugh. I love you.”

Taylor Swift also gave a heartfelt impromptu performance of her song, “New Year’s Day,” prompting Jimmy Fallon’s producer, Mike DiCenzo, to share this thread on Twitter about the episode:

Our continued thoughts and prayers are with the Fallon family.
