John Mayer is going to go down in history as two things– the guitar legend of his generation and the guy who said all that weird stuff about his former girlfriends to Playboy and Rolling Stone. He has seven GRAMMYs and has dated just as many famous people as Taylor Swift– including Taylor Swift. So, when someone that talented and that famous kind of disappears, you wonder where they are and what they’re doing.

Mayer has been on a self-imposed hiatus from the spotlight, but he’s back now with his brand new album, The Search For Everything. He’s been in Montana living the low-life and on the road with the Grateful Dead. Mayer knows he hit rock bottom and he told the New York Times all about it.

His new single, “Still Feel Like Your Man” is an upbeat breakup tune that is old-school Mayer to the core.

And yes, it’s all about Katy Perry.

“Who else would I be thinking about? And by the way, it’s a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it’s like, give me this, people,” he told the Times.

The tune is sweet, with a touch of desperation noting that, if Katy wants to come take a shower at John’s and wash her hair– he’s still got her shampoo.

I still keep your shampoo in my shower
In case you wanna wash your hair
And I know that you probably found yourself someone somewhere
But I do not really care
‘Cause as long as it is there

[Chorus]
I still feel like your man
Still feel like your man
Still feel like your man, oh mama
Still feel like your man
I still feel like your man, your man

[Bridge]
(Ever since the day we met, ever since the day we met)
Still like the letters in your name and how they feel, babe
Still think I’m never gonna find another you
Still like to leave the party early and go home, babe
And don’t you know, babe
I’d rather sit here on my own and be alone, babe
