There’s no question that N*Sync was one of the biggest, most influential pop groups of the ’90s.

From their music, to their dancing, to their outfits, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone and Lance Bass reined as the supreme style-makers of the decade — for better or for worse.

And then, in 2002, the group disbanded, leaving fans all around the world in tears.

And now, nearly 15 years later, Justin has revealed why he left the group to launch a solo career.

“We were on a stadium tour, and I just felt like the whole thing was too big,” he said in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “It started as a fun snowball fight that was becoming an avalanche.”

Justin also felt like his musical goals and values had veered from those of his bandmates.

“And also, I was growing out of it,” he continued. “I felt like I cared more about the music than some of the other people in the group. And I felt like I had other music I wanted to make and that I needed to follow my heart.”

I mean, I get it — but still, tears.
