If you’ve been watching this season of “Dancing with the Stars,” you’ve probably noticed that Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez has been absolutely crushing it. Whether dancing the tango, jive or jazz, she and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy have proven again and again that they are the couple to beat.

Recently, the smiley 16 year old visited “The Ellen Show” to talk about her “DWTS” success and the emotional transformation she has to go through before each dance. Since Laurie is so young and, as she says, hasn’t gone through much, she and Val have had to get creative in order to evoke emotional depth.

While Val likes to reference movies like “The Notebook” and “Finding Nemo,” Laurie says that “channeling smelling a quesadilla” works just fine — LOL.
