In 2001, Mandy Moore made her major motion picture debut as Lana, the mean cheerleader, in “The Princess Diaries.”
Lana was one of many antagonists in the story who tormented the main character, Mia, played by Anne Hathaway. Mia was a self proclaimed “freak” who finds out that she’s a princess.
As the story progresses, Lana is the resident “mean girl” who teases, taunts and eventually set Mia up with a nasty TMZ style prank.
I will admit that the film has an element of cheese, but I genuinely love it. I mean, Mandy sings this gem in the middle of the film:
It’s a fun teenage film with a good message and an amazing cast. Julie Andrews is the queen, Hector Elizondo is the cool bodyguard and Sandra Oh was a self-absorbed principal. Not to mention, the young star Anne Hathaway would later win an Oscar and Mandy Moore would become the most loved and hated mom on TV with “This Is Us.”
