Twenty-one-time Oscar-nominee and the most decorated actress of her generation, Meryl Streep, is readying to join the cast of the female-empowerment hit, “Big Little Lies.”
Season 2 of the show is set to follow the aftermath of Celeste Wright’s (Nicole Kidman) husband’s death (Alexander Skarsgård’) and Streep is coming on to play her mother-in-law, Mary Louise Wright.
According to a release, Streep joins the show “concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following her son Perry’s death. Mary Louise arrives in Monterey searching for answers.”
Skarsgård is expected to appear in flashbacks throughout the season.
HBO has also shared, “David E. Kelley, who wrote Season 1, will write all seven scripts based on a story from “Big Little Lies” novelist Liane Moriarty. He will also executive produce, along with Kidman, Witherspoon, Bruna Papandrea, Jean-Marc Vallée, Nathan Ross, Gregg Fienberg and Andrea Arnold. Andrea Arnold is set to direct.”
