Jimmy Kimmel’s “Mean Tweets” usually targets celebrities– actors, personalities, musicians – who typically only perform for fans or are detached from their audience in TV.
Athletes, however, are used to facing hecklers. They face thousands of them a week on the field and thousands more online. And sports fans are brutal, saying things that will haunt your dreams for the rest of your life. So it was surprising that the stars of the NFL had such a hard time reading mean tweets for Jimmy Kimmel.
The NFL edition of “Mean Tweets” included its usual cabal of poor grammar, incoherent cursing, and cruel takedowns. For the most part, the guys couldn’t really handle it. For example, here’s how actors handled criticism.
Note: The audience laughed at Miranda during his first performances of “Hamilton.” This dude doesn’t care what you have to say.
If only athletes could handle the heat in the same way.
They let their actions on the field speak for them, so when you take away the field they just get mad.
