Kelly Clarkson and Pink’s Performance of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” During the #AMAs Will Definitely Bring You to Tears

The 2017 American Music Awards didn’t waste any time in acknowledging that the last few months have been pretty hard on Americans– in every regard. Jamie Foxx opened up the show by introducing Pink and Kelly Clarkson, who were performing together for the first time, “This year, we needed the power of music to help us escape the news of today. We needed the power of music to help us heal. From hurricanes, wildfires, hate, hatred-fueled violence, 2017 was a year that tested our faith. In these moments of crisis, heroes emerged. … Together, we shall overcome the pain. Together, we can unite as a people and as a nation.”

Kelly and Pink‘s performance of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” was a tribute to first responders, who have put their own lives on the line to save their neighbors, friends and usually– strangers.

As the First Responders left the stage and Kelly and Pink began to sing they were backed up by a montage of photos depicting the First Responders in action.

The two superstars got a standing ovation at their end of their moving tribute. On top of that, it truly looked like they enjoyed sharing the stage with each other.
