There are some moments in life I’ll never forget. I’ll never forget the birth of my nephews, the times the Arkansas Razorbacks won any football game ever, seeing Beyonce in concert for the first time and sitting on the 12th row of a Dolly Parton show. Now, I can add seeing Steven Tyler perform a mini-set in Nashville, singing some of Aerosmith’s biggest hits, including “Cryin’.”
“Cryin'” was originally released in 1993, right at the peak of my watching a lot of MTV without my parents knowing days. The video for the song featured a young Alicia Silverstone and she was so compelling in the video and the band’s follow-up videos for “Amazing” and “Crazy” that Hollywood director Amy Heckerling decided to cast her in the blockbuster hit, “Clueless.” Needless to say, the video and the song were a really big deal.
It took me a few more years to discover the rest of Aerosmith’s catalog, but by the time Nine Lives was released in 1997, I was in for life.
All of that to say, I never really thought I’d have an opportunity in this lifetime to see Steven Tyler (or Aerosmith) live, but I did and it was everything I hoped for and more. The stage was small, but he worked it. Joe Perry wasn’t playing guitar, but with Tyler’s vocals, who needs a guitar player anyway?
What’s not to love about this?
