Last summer, Taylor Swift spent several days in a Denver court battling radio DJ David Mueller in a case where she alleged that he grabbed her bare buttocks before a concert. Mueller lost his job at KYGO in 2013 after Swift’s groping allegation emerged. In 2015 Mueller sued Swift, which prompted her to countersue. Swift won the case and was widely praised for her testimony, but now Mueller is back on the air.
Mueller has taken the reins of KIX 92.7 in Greenwood, Mississippi under the on-air name of Stonewall Jackson. Like the Confederate General.
Mueller’s new boss, Larry Fuss is defending his new hire, though it’s been met with a lot of backlash, “I sat down with him face-to-face in Minneapolis before I offered him the job and talked to him about it. He’s either the world’s best liar, or he’s telling the truth. I tend to believe his version of the story and most people who have talked to him face-to-face do believe his version of the story.”
Fuss has also said the station is currently deleting negative comments about the hiring on its Facebook page and “Most of them need to get a life, Most of the response I have seen this morning— there’s been quite a few on our Facebook page, and none of it is radio people, none of it is local people in Mississippi. It’s all originating from some Taylor Swift fan group somewhere. They’re telling people to go to this station’s web page and post negative comments. It’s just people who don’t have a clue, or don’t really have any knowledge of the facts.”
Talk about not having a clue– with the #MeToo movement and everything else, this is an interesting choice. Not to mention letting him go on the air with the name Stonewall Jackson. All interesting decisions.
