Randall Pearson, all-American dad, is everyone’s favorite doting dad and loving husband on “This Is Us” and with Sterling K. Brown’s recent historic Golden Globes win (first black actor to win the TV lead actor drama category), one would think we’d get to be watching him for years to come. But, of course, we’re probably wrong.
With the tragic and upcoming death of Jack Pearson on everyone’s minds, “This Is Us” creator Dan Fogelman told Entertainment Weekly that Randall is safe. For now. Kind of.
“Listen, I can’t reassure anybody of anything. I can assure everybody that we’re not killing Randall this season, so everybody can relax. “I think they would burn my house down. I’ve experienced with a lot of friends, when you’ve lost a parent, particularly for whatever reason a parent of the same sex —a guy losing his father or a girl losing her mother early — there can be a slight mortality clock that kicks in a bit earlier than it does on other people, especially since it was formative. And I think that’s something Randall and Kevin feel.”
Wait. What? So, Randall is dying? Yes. And of course, Jack/ Milo Ventimiglia said we all just need to deal with it, “I think once people discover how and when and why [Jack] died, hopefully they can move on from it. It’s like death that happens in our own lives: you have to accept that it happens. And you have to accept that it’s coming and there’s nothing you can do about it. None of us can escape it.”
