My love for red wine runs deep, so any excuse to drink more of it (and with a festive twist at that), is a good one in my book.

If you’ve never tried mulled wine, you’re missing out! It’s easy to make and is packed with holiday spice. Whip it up for a Christmas party or just for yourself while you decorate your house, and enjoy a happy, happy holiday!

How To Make Hot Spiced Wine:

  • 1 cup caster sugar
  • 1 orange
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 lime
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 tsp. nutmeg
  • 6 star anise
  • 2 bottles of red wine
  • Spiced rum

Add sugar to a pot, then cut the peel off of one orange, twist the juice into the pot, then drop the peel in as well. Do the same with the lemon and lime. Cut open the vanilla bean pod and scrape out the beans with a knife, then put the beans and the whole vanilla pod into the pot. Add 6 cloves, the cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and star anise to the pot, then add 1/2 bottle of red wine. Bring to a simmer and stir until it reaches the consistency of a syrup. Remove from the heat and add the remaining 1 1/2 bottles of red wine. Add spiced rum (about 3 oz.), then serve warm with an orange garnish.
