How To Make Extra-Flaky Vodka Pie Crust

What’s better than pie? Pie made with an extra-flaky vodka crust, that’s what!

With Thanksgiving literally right around the corner, it’s high-time to start planning your menu and putting together your to-do list— and what would Thanksgiving be without pie? An abomination. This pie crust recipe is easy to follow and makes a perfectly flaky pie crust that can be made sweet or savory. Side note: The vodka will cook out, so no worries when it comes to serving this to your entire family!

How To Make Extra-Flaky Vodka Pie Crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup lard or vegetable shortening
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 sticks cold, unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup vodka
  • 3-4 tbsp. ice cold water
Using a food processor or immersion blender, mix the flour, lard, sugar, salt, and 4 tbsp. of butter, until it’s the consistency of corn meal. Add the remaining butter and mix until the dough is in pea-sized pieces. Sprinkle the vodka and water on top of the mixture, and mix until the dough forms. Evenly divide the dough in two pieces of plastic wrap, seal them and refrigerate them for at least an hour, if not overnight. Once it’s chilled, roll it out and press it into a pie plate, then make your favorite pie, sweet or savory!
