When most people think of getting older, they tend to think about gray hair. While gray hair is definitely a part of the process, it isn’t the only thing that happens. Aging is not without its joys or surprises, which is what makes it so wonderful. Okay, maybe not that wonderful. But while weird things are happening to you physically, there is also an emotional maturation process. This is the process that allows you to age while not giving a flip about what anyone else thinks. And that my friends, really is wonderful!
10 Things No One Tells You About Getting Older:
1. Hair will grow on your face.
Yes, it’s true. It starts off as just little peach fuzz but before you know it, you have facial hair that will rival most males. That cute little electric razor will become your best friend.
2. The rest of your hair gets thinner.
This is what makes #1 so weird. The hair on your head, under your arms and on your legs get thinner. Oh yeah, even your eyebrows begin to fall out. Guess it all moves it to your face.
3. Weight gain happens.
Remember when you were in college and you could eat what you wanted and not gain an ounce? Yeah, those days come to an end. You will gain weight just looking at or thinking about food.
4. Everything goes South.
EVERYTHING. Nothing on your body will be in its original place. And no matter how hard you try, it will never look the same. Botox®, fillers, and even plastic surgery will not truly rectify this situation. P.S. Too much of these things just make you look weird-er.
5. You will begin to think “readers” are cute.
Yes, you really will. Mainly because you will suddenly need them to read your cell phone, the newspaper and your favorite book.
6. Your brain does not age.
Oh yes, your memory will go, but your brain will always and forever think you are 18-years-old. Your eyes, however, will always remind your brain that you are not. This phenomenon is slightly worse in men. This has been proven scientifically on “America’s Funniest Videos” where the phrase, “Pffftt, I can still do that!” is a common one.
7. Your body does age and ache.
You will feel like you have run a marathon, just because you decided it was time to weed the flower beds. Not to mention, every time you get up from your chair, your knees, elbows, and hips will sound off like a firework show.
8. You will begin to want less “stuff.”
See? There are some positives about getting older. You will begin to feel that less is more and it is so liberating.
9. Your relationships will change.
You will become friends with your children and you will treat your parents with unconditional respect.
10. You will learn to embrace your wrinkles.
You earned every single one of them! Besides, wrinkles mean wisdom, so be proud of them!
