It happens every year, you load up your kids and head to the local mall to see Santa to capture that perfect Christmas photo. And then, Santa scares the life out of your child and you walk away with a grief-stricken child and overpriced photo of Santa staring into the camera as your child is screaming.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

12 Times Your Classic Santa Photo Didn’t End Up Like You Wanted:

1. When you look to your older brother for support, but even he is troubled by that look in Santa’s eyes.

The Starlet Project #8/52 – “Snap Out Of It!” The Understudy sat silently, smiling for the Parental Units as they clicked away with their phones and camera thingies. The Starlet cried, she squirmed, she flailed, she did everything she could to get away from the hairy man in the strange hat. She wanted no part of this madness. Was there no one to save The Starlet? She looked at her brother, The Understudy, as he stared forward, obeying every command of the camera wielding adults. Was he brainwashed? Did he not see what was happening and the madness of it all? She had to reach him. She had to try. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally turned and looked at her. She pleaded with her eyes, “Snap out of it!! Don’t you see what is happening? Our Parental Units have dropped us on the lap of this sweaty, smelly, scary, hairy, hot, pile of red and white for what?? Their amusement!?!? We must break free. We can’t stay here. It’s madness!!” But The Understudy just stared back blankly with those eyes. Those eyes that told her everything she needed to know. There was no escaping it. He had tried many times before she was even born. The best thing they could do was to wait, smile, and hope they would get candy when it was all over. And then they could finally get out of these ridiculous clothes. Listen to your brother, little one. You have to pick your battles. Live to cry and squirm and flail another day. Because right now, you’re just here for our amusement. Do it for us, kid.
