If you are like us, you spend a lot of time planning meals and prepping food, making the helpful kitchen tips and tricks that save you time, worth knowing! We decided to round up some of the best kitchen tips that just might have you saying “Why didn’t I think of that?” We sure wish we had known these tricks sooner!

Here are 17 Simple Kitchen Tricks That Will Make Your Life Easier

1. Dirty Microwave

Microwaves can get so dirty because they get used frequently and we are typically in a hurry making it easy to just close it up so no one can see the mess we’ve made. But eventually, you’ve got to bite the bullet and clean it. You can accomplish this quickly and easily with a solution of vinegar and water. Place the combination in the microwave, select high power then microwave a few minutes. The steam will loosen everything allowing you to simply wipe clean.

2. Shuck Corn the Easy Way

There is nothing in the world more frustrating than trying to shuck an ear of corn. How much silk can there be? To get this done quickly and thoroughly, cut the ends off of each ear, microwave for 3 -4 minutes. Remove the corn (it will be very hot!) and slip the husks off, silks included!

3. Test the Freshness of Eggs

If you take your eggs out of the carton and store them in a storage bin, you probably won’t remember when you purchased those eggs or know when they expire. To make sure they are fresh enough to eat, simply drop the egg in a glass of cold water. If the egg sinks to the bottom, it’s still fresh! If it floats, toss that baby!

4. Grate Cold Butter

Keep in mind your stick of butter should be nearly frozen for this to work. You also must work very fast to keep it from melting! But grating butter is the perfect way to add it to dry baking ingredients before mixing . We also love grating the butter to top our toast (genius!) steamed vegetables or onto our baked potatoes.

5. Leftover Sauce?

It’s sometimes hard to prevent wasting food, especially when a recipe calls for 8oz, but the jar is 16oz. All you have to do is pour the leftover sauce into an old fashioned ice cube tray. Then pop them out as you need them! This works with any homemade sauce too!

6. Reheating Pasta the Right Way

Rather than throwing it all onto the plate in a pile and then having to stir it several times, simply leave a hole in the middle so that it looks like a pasta donut. This ensures quick and even heating.

7. Keep Ice Cream From Being Hard as a Rock

How many times have you bent a spoon or come close to breaking your hand trying to dig ice cream out of its container? Too many to count if you are like most people. The solution is to store it in a plastic freezer bag! Make sure you push all the excess air out of the bag prior to sealing it. We know it’s an extra step, but if you value straight spoons and your hands, it’s worth the effort!

8. Keep Your Cutting Board in Place

The last you need when using a large, sharp knife is a cutting board that keeps slipping! All you have to do is put a wet paper towel or damp hand towel under your board to keep it in place!

9. DIY Sippy Cup

It never fails that when you need a sippy cup, you can’t find one. No problem! You can just make your own by stretching a little Press ‘n Seal over the top of any cup and poking a straw through the middle! Press ‘n Seal is magical.

10. Repurpose Your Pizza Cutter

Use it to cut up pancakes into bite-sized pieces! Super quick, and easy to make pieces easy enough for little hands or yourself!

11. Make Frozen Yogurt Pops

Don’t want to feel guilty about a cool, creamy summer snack? Make frozen yogurt pops! For a super easy fix, simply toss some Go ‘Gurts in the freezer and enjoy! Or you can poke a popsicle stick through the top of a yogurt lid and freeze. Just make sure it is cylindrical so you can pull it out once frozen.

12. Dental Floss Works in the Kitchen Too!

How else are you going to perfectly cut layers of cake or slice soft cheeses perfectly? That’s right, dental floss! Just make sure you use unscented!

13. Juicier Citrus Fruit

Before you slice your citrus fruit, roll them while applying a bit of pressure on them. This bursts those tiny, juice-filled cells allowing more juice to be extracted.

14. The Best Wine Chiller

Want to drink a glass of white wine that is room temperature but don’t want to add ice? We have a solution. Frozen grapes! They will chill your wine (or whatever it is you are drinking!) without diluting it! And if you don’t to to put them in a drink, they are pretty yummy by themselves.

15. Parchment Paper is Your Best Friend

What’s so awesome about parchment paper? It’s basically a miracle that withstands heat where wax paper won’t. Anytime you are baking simply line your pan with parchment paper and clean up is a breeze!

16. Shred Chicken in a Snap

If you own a Kitchen Aid mixer, throw a few hot chicken breasts in and they will be shredded in less than a minute!

17. Use Non-Stick Spray in Your Measuring Cups

When measuring sticky things like peanut butter, honey or molasses spray your measuring cups first with a quick blast of non-stick spray. Watch with amazement as your ingredients slide right out without a mess!
