Okay, maybe you don’t want your Halloween pumpkin to last forever, but you would like it to look great until November 1. You’ve spent a lot of time and effort carving that spooky face and the last thing you want is for it to collapse. We scoured the internet looking for ways to help keep your pumpkin looking dapper for his big night!

3 Ways to Make Your Halloween Pumpkin Last Forever:

1. Bleach

Soaking your carved pumpkin in bleach water for 8 hours will preserve it for several days longer than if you had left it untreated. Simply mix 1 teaspoon of bleach per 1 gallon of water making enough to completely submerge the pumpkin. After the 8-hour soak, remove pumpkin and pat completely dry with paper towels. Moisturize the pumpkin daily by spraying with the bleach solution. The bleach acts as an antimicrobial and the water will keep it hydrated!

2. Silica

You can typically pick this up at your local craft store, or you may have a few left in shoe boxes. Simply push the little beads into the flesh of the pumpkin. In the case of pumpkin preservation, more is more. Just make sure you don’t alter the outside look of the pumpkin by pressing them in too far.

3. Pumpkin Preservative

Who knew they made such a thing? We didn’t, but are glad to know this now. You may have to find a Halloween specialty store or find it online. The active ingredients are fungicides which will prevent any fungus (gross, we know) from growing. You can dunk or spray, whichever you prefer. Just remember that if you dunk, dry that baby as well as possible. You can continue to treat with the spray to further prevent mold and decay.

We hope these tips help!
