There’s not much better than biting into a fresh, crisp apple. It just tastes like fall. And as good as apples are on their own, they’re also super versatile. For most of us, our first thought when we think of apple desserts is probably apple pie, but there’s so much more you can do with them. So treat yourself to a sweet after dinner—or any time of day—treat!

4 Delicious Apple Dessert Recipes:

1. Apple Crescents

Ingredients:

  • 1 (8-ounce) container crescent rolls
  • 1 apple, cored, peeled, and cut into about 8 slices
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons flour
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 6 ½ ounces any citrus soft drink (7up, Sprite, Sierra Mist)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Unroll crescent rolls. Place one apple slice on each crescent and roll up to form dumplings. Place the dumplings into a greased baking pan—no particular size, just whatever holds all of them. In a medium bowl, mix together sugar, flour, cinnamon, and butter until combined. Using a spoon, place mixture over each dumpling. Then pour soft drink into the pan where there is space between the dumplings. Bake until golden brown, or about 40 minutes.

2. Apple Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup instant oats
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅔ cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 apple, peeled and chopped

Directions:

In a medium bowl, mix together flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt. Add in oats, mix until combined, and set aside. In a large bowl, add egg, butter, and vanilla, and whisk until combined. Add in white sugar and water, and continue whisking until smooth. Pour flour mixture into sugar mixture, and whisk until just combined. Then fold apple into mixture until evenly mixed. Place bowl in refrigerator for about an hour to set. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Using a spoon, scoop balls of dough onto greased baking sheet, and bake for 15 minutes.

3. Baked Stuffed Apples

Ingredients:

Topping:

  • ¼ cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons instant oats
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cubed and chilled

Filling

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 apples (I like Cortland, but any will do), peeled and chopped

Bowls:

  • 2 apples, with tops chopped off and enough flesh scooped out to form bowls

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. To make the topping, combine flour, brown and white sugars, cinnamon, and salt. Add oats and mix until combined. Using two forks or your hands, cut in butter until mixture has a crumbly consistency, and set aside. In medium saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped apples, and cook over medium heat until apples are softened, about 10 minutes. Fill apple bowls with apple mixture, and top each with the crumbly topping. Place apples in baking pan and bake for about 12 minutes, or until topping is golden brown and crispy.

4. Chocolate Pecan Apple Cake

Ingredients:

Cake:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs

Filling:

  • 6 apples (I suggest Fuji, but any kind will do), peeled and finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Topping:

  • ¾ cup flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, cubed and chilled
  • ½ cup pecans, chopped

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. For the cake, prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package directions. Then, in a large bowl, combine cake mix, water, oil, and eggs for a minute or two until well blended. Pour mixture into a greased 9×13 baking pan, and set aside. For the filling, in a medium bowl, combine chopped apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon, and spread over cake mixture in baking pan. Set aside. For the topping, in a medium bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, and salt. Using two forks or your hands, cut in butter until mixture turns crumbly. Sprinkle pecans over apple filling in baking pan, and then top with crumbly topping. Bake for roughly 40-55 minutes (or until a toothpick comes out clean). Be sure to keep an eye on it because cooking times will vary depending on your oven and cake mix used.
