We know we’ve already talked about candy that isn’t the best to hand out on Halloween, but the truth is, it does actually get worse than fruit-flavored Tootsie Rolls. So don’t be that neighbor and hand out the things no kid wants to find in their bag of treats.
5 Things You Should Never Hand Out to Trick-or-Treaters:
This may not be super common, but it does happen. I got toothbrushes a couple of times and though they were individually wrapped, it was still just kind of creepy. And I don’t know about you, but I am pretty picky about my toothbrush so I find it hard to believe that a random neighbor would know that information about each kid.
2. Spider Rings
Who is the cruel, evil person that hands these out? Do you have any idea how terrifying it is to put your hand down into your candy bag knowing there are spiders “crawling” all over your candy? It is pure torture! Not to mention when you dump out your bag of candy and there are tons of them staring back at you lording over your booty.
3. Peppermint Discs
Come on, y’all. Any candy you can pick up for free at the local Mexican restaurant is not going to be greeted favorably. M&Ms, Reese Peanut Butter Cups or Butterfingers are much better options. Or if you must go with the peppermint theme, Peppermint Patties are at the minimum, tradeable.
Okay, I really can’t think of anything worse than a warm piece of fruit getting all banged up or dragged across the pavement all night. My mom made me eat fruit as a healthy snack. I sure didn’t want to see it in my candy bag on the one night was allowed to eat my weight in sugar.
Just because something is shaped like a Jack-o-Lantern means kids want to see it mixed into their candy on Halloween night. Pretzels may be yummy in a lunch box, but not in a candy bag.
What do you think is off limits to hand out on Halloween night?
