Summertime is the best season for cocktails. Fall is a close second with its warm spiced drinks, but nothing can beat a chilled rum cocktail on a hot summer’s day. What’s more is that there are a plethora of cocktails to choose from, each with its own mix of white, dark, aged, and spiced rums. It can be overwhelming, but never fear, we are here to help! We have narrowed the list down to the best six rum cocktails to cool you down this summer.


1. Cube Libre

  • 12 oz. Cola
  • 1.5 oz. Light Rum
  • .25 oz. Fresh Lime Juice

Pour ingredients over ice in a glass and stir. Garnish with a lime wedge.

2. Mojito

  • 2.5 oz. Light Rum
  • .5 oz. Simple Syrup (or 3 tsp. fine sugar)
  • 1/2 of a Fresh Lime, cut into wedges
  • 8 Fresh Mint Leaves
  • Club Soda

Muddle mint, lime, bitters, and simple syrup in a pint glass. Add rum and ice and stir thoroughly. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass and top with soda. Garnish with a sprig of mint leaves.

3. Daiquiri

  • 2 oz. White Rum
  • .75 oz. Fresh Lime Juice.
  • .75 oz Simple Syrup (1:1 parts water and sugar)

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice and shake hard for 30 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.

4. Dark And Stormy

  • 2 oz. Dark or Spiced Rum
  • Ginger Beer
  • .5 oz. Fresh Lime Juice

Fill a glass with ice and add rum, lime juice, and bitters and stir. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a lime wedge.

5. Mai Tai

  • 1 oz. Aged Rum
  • 1 oz. White Rum
  • .5 oz. Curacao
  • .75 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
  • .5 oz. Orgeat
  • Mint

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice and shake thoroughly. Strain into a chilled, ice-filled glass. Garnish with a lime wedge and mint.

6. Planters Punch

  • 1. 5 oz. Aged Jamaican Rum
  • 1 oz. Orange Juice
  • 1 oz. Pineapple Juice
  • .5 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
  • .25 oz. Simple Syrup (or 1 tsp fine sugar)

Combine all ingredients except bitters in a cocktail shaker over ice and shake thoroughly. Strain into an ice-filled glass. Garnish with a lime wedge and other seasonal fruit.
