Looking for a way to surprise and delight your special someone this summer? Tired of wandering the aisles of Walmart while both saying, “I don’t care, it’s whatever you want to do?” Us too. Here are our seven favorite date ideas for the summer!
There are few things as romantic as a picnic with your special someone on a warm summer day. But, what food should you pack for your picnic? Egg salad sandwiches. Macaroni salad with extra mayo. Sushi rolls with extra…whatever. A gallon of milk.
These are just a few of the temperature-sensitive items you could pack for your picnic if you want a date both of you will remember for years to come!
2. Dinner and a movie
“Dinner and a movie” is a timeless date combination. Of course, the age-old question remains: should you watch the movie first or have dinner first?
If you watch the movie first, you’ll be able to talk about it during dinner. If you watched a good movie, this is ideal. However, if you watched a bad movie, you may find the dinner conversation to be lacking.
A good rule of thumb: no movies with “chainsaw” in the title.
3. Go on a hike or nature walk
Guys, is your favorite girl the outdoorsy type? If so, a hike or nature walk could be a wonderful summer date.
A word of caution: if you are going to hike in areas where there could be bears, do not smother yourself in honey. Bears love honey.
Also, don’t put salmon or halibut in the pockets of your pants. Of course, that probably goes without saying.
4. Go fishing
Speaking of seafood, going fishing at a lake is another fun date idea!
However, a word of warning to men readers: if you take your special girl fishing with you, don’t tell other people your “fish story” while she is within earshot.
Otherwise, she will interrupt and say something like: “Um, sweetie, that’s not what happened at all. Remember? The fish didn’t escape; we had to throw it back because it was too small.”
In other words, use caution with this dating idea.
5. Take a cooking class
Want to impress your date by showing off your cooking skills? Taking a cooking class together!
I remember when I wowed my wife, as well as the cooking instructor and the rest of our cooking class, with my “Ramen Noodles with BBQ Sauce and Cut-Up Hot Dogs” dish.
The instructor knew she had nothing more she could teach me, because we were asked to leave the class and never return.
6. Alligator hunting
Have you ever watched “Swamp People” on TV and thought to yourself, that would make a great date for me and the misses? The answer is yes, of course.
What date wouldn’t want to sit in a boat in the middle of the swamp on a hot, humid summer day? What date wouldn’t want to reach into the swamp water to grab a wire attached to a hook, which is attached to an angry alligator’s mouth? And what date wouldn’t want to hold onto said wire as the alligator flailed around trying to escape?
Men, if your special someone doesn’t like the sound of such a date, she sounds high maintenance. You can do better.
7. Go to the theater, symphony or ballet
Does your significant other enjoy the fine arts? If so, going to the theatre, symphony or ballet could be a great summer date idea.
For starters, you will be indoors where there is air conditioning. Secondly, they give you a program, which you can pretend to read for the rest of the evening. And three, you get a great “get out of jail free” card.
So, if you ever do something to anger your wife or girlfriend (such as giving her warm sushi on a picnic, taking her alligator hunting, or doing anything else in this article), you can say to her: “Hey, remember the time I took you to that art thing?”
