What do women want in a man? It’s an age-old question, and many guys would love to know the answer to it. Well, the good women of country music have more than a few answers for what they want in man, so, fellas, take note!

1. A Romeo who sweeps her off her feet.

Women want a man who will ride in on a white horse and sweep them off their feet. This is the kind of Romeo and Juliet love described in Taylor Swift’s “Love Story,” and Jana Kramer’s song, “Love” lists all the things a woman wants in her fairy tale – getting lost in someone’s eyes, talking for hours, looking at shooting stars, going on midnight drives, and getting butterflies when you kiss for the first time. It’s a big list, gentlemen, but it’s the truth. We women can’t help but want the fairy tale love story and all that comes with it.

2. A man who is proud of her.

Leave it to Shania Twain to answer honestly about her expectations of a man. First, she says in “Any Man of Mine,” that he must be proud of her, and I know exactly what she means. No woman wants a man who is constantly cutting her down or making her feeling like an idiot. Women want men who will be their biggest fans.

3. A man who knows when to keep his mouth shut.

Again, from “Any Man of Mine,” Twain says she wants a man who will tell her she looks just right even when, “last year’s dress is just a little too tight.” Men, we want you to be honest all the time, and yet we also expect you to use discretion when it comes to being honest about how we look. But, listen, it’s a mistake you’ll only make once.

4. A one-woman man

If a woman were to describe her perfect man in just a few words, it might look like the personal want ads described in Chely Wright’s song, “Single White Female.” The bottom line – she wants a man who will be faithful and only have eyes for her.

Single white female

Looking for that special lover

To put it in a nutshell

A one-woman man who doesn’t want no other

Oh, you never can tell

She just might be your dream come true

A single white female

Is looking for a man like you

5. A Cowboy

Country women are looking for real cowboys. It’s as simple as that, and nobody sums it up better than the straightforward Reba McEntire in her song, “I Want A Cowboy.”

I want a down-home up with the sunrise man

A pick-up truck driving, bull-riding, strong, steady hand

I want the Wranglers, Stetson, and all that stuff

I want the real McCoy

I want a cowboy

6. A man who loves her and makes her feel beautiful.

Women want men who will love them and make them feel beautiful. Now, any man can hand out a compliment, but what a woman really wants is a man who will make her feel beautiful on any given day and still makes her feel that way after 10, 20, or 50 years later.  A man says, “you’re beautiful” with his eyes as much as he speaks it out loud, and a woman knows when he really means it.  I love the way Lucy Hale describes this idea in her song “Loved.”

Make me feel loved, make me feel beautiful

Make me feel dance-around-the-room, Cinderella kind of magical

7. A man who is in it for love and not a one night stand.

I think the majority of women will agree with Shania Twain and her song, “(If You’re Not in It for Love) I’m Outta Here.” Guys, if you aren’t looking for love then you just need to look somewhere else because women see through your pick up lines and lying eyes.

If you’re not in it for love

If you’re not willin’ to give it all you got

If you’re not in it for life, if you’re not in it for love

Let me make it clear to you my dear

If you’re not in it for love, I’m outta here

8. A man who is in it for the long haul.

Falling in love is the easy part. It’s the staying in love that takes work. Women want men who will keep their promise to never leave, despite the ups and downs of love and life. That’s the theme of Reba McEntire’s, “I Keep on Loving You.”

Sometimes I swear it might be easier to throw in the towel…

Someday we’re gonna look back and say, “Look at us now.“

When it comes down to it, women can have this entire list of qualities in a man, but none of it will matter if a woman can’t find a man willing to keep his promise to love her forever.

To sum it up, all that women want in a man is a Romeo-Cowboy who sweeps her off her feet, loves her intuitively, makes her feel beautiful, is proud of her, is faithful, knows when to keep his mouth shut, is in it for the long haul, and will love her forever. Is that asking too much? I don’t think so.
