As much as we hate to admit it, summer is coming to an end. Say goodbye to the swimming pool and hello to crisp, fall evenings. But before you head out to your first bonfire of the season, there are a few things you need to clean before packing them away for their winter hibernation.

9 Things You Need to Clean Before Fall:

1. Sandals

You don’t want to pack away your favorite leather sandals before you remove any dirt. The dirt could potentially stain the leather causing it to be spotty.

2. Swimsuits

Don’t pack your swimwear away after your final swim until you have thoroughly washed them with a gentle detergent. Leaving the chlorine in your suits for several months will cause the elastic fibers to dry out and lose their elasticity, leaving them shapeless.

3. Cover-ups

Sometimes cover-ups get forgotten, mainly because they don’t exactly need to be cleaned often. It’s okay if it hasn’t been washed all summer, you can wash it now!

4. White Clothing

Even if you haven’t worn them in a while, it is a good idea to go ahead to run them through the wash with bleach to make sure they don’t yellow. (Keep those white jeans out, though. We love them in fall!)

5. The Pool Gear

You don’t want your inflatable raft to deteriorate over the winter, right? Rinse it well, let it dry completely and then pack it away.

6. Your Pool Bag

If you are like us, you probably didn’t even consider washing it over the summer. Well, now is the time!

7. The Cooler

These things are notorious for ending up filled with mildew. Clean well and dry completely. Read our lips, dry completely.

8. The Flower Beds

Remove all the annuals that are looking as sad as you are that summer is ending and trim back your perennials to make room for your fall flora and fauna.

9. The Barbecue Grill

Clean it according to manufacture’s instructions if you aren’t going to be using it during the cooler months. Leaving it dirty for long periods of time causes it to deteriorate more quickly.
