Joanna Gaines Says Baby Crew Was a “Total Surprise” for Her and Chip

-

When Chip and Joanna Gaines announced that their HGTV show “Fixer Upper” was ending, they shared that it was due to the fact that they wanted to focus on their family and their other business endeavors.

Shortly after their final season began airing on HGTV, Chip and Jo announced that they were expecting, leading fans to believe their plans to have another baby was why the show was coming to an end.

But, according to Joanna, that wasn’t the case— because she and Chip were completely surprised by the news themselves.

“I had been feeling a little emotional and crazy and thought, ‘Wow, this isn’t me,’” she told People. “Then all of a sudden I realized, ‘Hey, I remember this.’ When I saw the results of the test, my jaw dropped. Chip was in the driveway about to leave when I called him back and said, ‘We’re pregnant!’ He was so excited. We’re both just so excited.”

She said they didn’t plan on adding to their family when they ended the show, but Crew’s life made their decision that much clearer.

“When we were done, we had no plan like, ‘Let’s have baby No. 5,’” Joanna said. “It was a total surprise. But when we found out, it solidified that it was the right decision to leave when we did.”

Crew Gaines arrived in late June and he’s already adjusting perfectly to life in Waco with his mom, dad and siblings.

It's been a little over a week and he's settling in just fine 🧡
