Joanna Gaines Shares How She and Chip Told Their Kids About Baby No. 5: “They Lost It!”

-

Chip and Joanna Gaines are most well-known for their fame from HGTV’s “Fixer Upper,” but when they’re not working on flipping houses and painting shiplap (and even when they are, for that matter), they’re parents to four beautiful kids: Emmie (8), Ella (11), Duke (9) and Drake (13). Now, they’re getting ready to welcome their fifth child (a boy!) together, and they couldn’t be more excited.

In an interview with Country LivingJoanna shared the story of how they broke the news to their kids that a new sibling was on the way, and how they are preparing for baby no. 5.

“When they were younger, we waited [to tell them],” she said. “Typically we’d say, hey let’s wait a couple of weeks before we say anything, but we told them that day. Out of anybody, we were most excited to tell the kids. Now that they’re older, they get it and understand.”

Joanna shared the details on how they surprised their kids with the news.

“I had all these onesies out that [said] ‘big brother’ and ‘big sister’ and I made them turn around and look at it,” she said. “And it took them all a second to figure what the heck it was about. I mean, they lost it. They were so excited, and I think that’s what makes me the most excited—that they’re celebrating with us.”

She said that the fact that her kids are so excited makes the entire process more fun. “I have an 8-year-old kid to a 13-year-old kid, and every day they ask how many more days until the baby comes. So that’s been the most exciting thing—watching how excited they are.”

Like any mom, Joanna is nervous about delivery– and is trying not to think about it.  “Emmie is now eight, so now I feel like this is a brand new thing,” she said. “I don’t even want to think about delivery. I don’t want to remember it. I think we all block that out.”

True!

Chip and Joanna have yet to announce the name of baby no. 5, but we do know that she’s likely due sometime in July– so let Baby Watch 2k18 commence!
