Chip Gaines Told His Kids Why the Magnolia Tree is So Special to Him and Joanna and We’re Swooning

When you think about Chip and Joanna Gaines, you probably think of two things: First, shiplap– and second, magnolias.

The word magnolia has come to be a cornerstone for Chip and Joanna Gaines‘ business endeavors, from their store, Magnolia Market, to their new restaurant to Joanna Gaines’ new cookbook. In fact, Chip and Joanna make it a point to plant a magnolia tree on every property they renovate– and now, Chip is sharing the reason behind it.

In a preview for the final episode of “Fixer Upper,” (RIP), we see Chip and his kiddos standing around a magnolia tree waiting to be planted. “You know what’s interesting about a magnolia tree?” Chip asks his kids. “One of mama and I’s first dates I climbed up a magnolia tree and I pulled her off a magnolia bloom and I gave it to her.”

“We love magnolia trees. It really embodies our company. It’s basically become our mascot,” Chip says in the clip. “So every project we do, we love to plant a magnolia gem.”

Chip and Joanna’s last episode of “Fixer Upper” will air on HGTV on Tuesday, April 3.
