If you glance at one of Stephen Crowley’s Instagram photos, you might think he’s the worst dad ever, allowing his young daughter to get into some extremely dangerous situations, then snapping a photo of her, but really this Dublin-based photographer and designer is just a master with Photoshop who uses his talent to raise awareness for a worthy cause.
When his daughter, Hannah, was just a baby, she was diagnosed with a rare immune disorder called HLH. After a six-month hospital stay and chemotherapy, she finally received the bone marrow transplant that she so desperately needed.
After Hannah’s transplant and hospital stay, Crowley started documenting her every day life as well as a few precarious photo ops that he photoshopped, thinking it might give his family a good scare (without ever actually putting Hannah in danger).
When his photos started gaining worldwide attention, he used his fame to bring attention to HLH, a bone marrow registry that helps patients (like Hannah) find life-saving marrow donors. Thanks to Hannah’s anonymous donor, Hannah, just celebrated her first year of post-transplant life earlier this month!
