Danica Patrick’s NASCAR career has come to an end after a wreck during the Daytona 500. Patrick knew the race would be her last but did not expect it to end as it did. The accident included Chase Elliott, Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne, Brad Keselowski and was without serious injury. Patrick finished in 35th place.

“My family and friends have all been here, so many people have reached out, [and] it’s been a nice week, so I’m not going to dwell on the result here,” Patrick told ESPN. “That’s always a chance when you come to a superspeedway that’s the result.”

“It happens, and we will just move on down the road.”

The announcement was followed by a wave of support from fellow drivers including Jimmy Johnson.

Patrick will return for one final race in IndyCar during the Indianapolis 500 in May. That race will be her last before retiring from racing.
