What would you do with $125 million? We all have certain splurge items we would buy– a house, a boat, a luxury car, or an island– that remain fantasies until we win the lottery. Derek Carr, the quarterback for the Oakland Raiders doesn’t have to wonder. He has just signed the most lucrative contract in NFL history: $125 million for 5 years with a guaranteed $40 million at signing. And Carr knows exactly what he is going to do with it.
First, he’s going to splurge on Chick-Fil-A to celebrate with his family. Eating clean for a long period of will drive a man crazy. We all need a No. 1 with a lemonade and Chick-Fil-A sauce from time to time.
But then his answer diverges from what you would expect from an average pro athlete .
“The first thing I’ll do is pay my tithe, like I have since I was in college giving $700 on a scholarship check. That won’t change. I’ll do that. I’ll probably get my wife something nice, even though she begs me not to….The exciting thing for me money-wise, honestly, is that this money is going to help a lot of people. I’m very thankful to have it, that it’s in our hands, because it’s not only going to help a lot of people in this country but a lot of people around the world.”
Carr’s intention to give away a lot of his salary is no surprise to those who have followed his career. Carr has a long track record of serving others and putting his family, God, and his church before himself.

Haiti was amazing! These kids in this picture are on fire for Jesus. They lead their own worship service every single night to sing their praises of how good God is to them. They come from unbelievable stories and basically nothing. Some have even had to eat anything from rocks to even mud just to fill their bellies. Now they have been given a nice bed, schooling, and meals everyday by Gods Grace through Love A Child. The young lady leading the service was praying one night and said… "Lord you owe us nothing, but we owe you everything."
Carr is known as hard-working, humble player who uses his talents and resources to serve those around him. Later in the interview, Carr said that he doesn’t care about his stats. If he can help the Raiders win, even if he only throws two touchdowns all season, he will be happy.
The NFL has recently decided to move the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas by 2020. The Raiders will play in Oakland for the 2017 and 2018 seasons while their stadium in Las Vegas is completed. Carr will be the face of the new franchise.
