7 Easy Cocktails For The Patio:

1. Watermelon Punch

All you need is watermelon, vermouth, sugar and ice. Simply blend and drink.

Ingredients:

  • 3-cups seeded watermelon, cut into small pieces
  • 1 ½-cups white vermouth
  • 1 ½-tablespoons superfine sugar
  • 3-cups crushed ice

Directions:

Place ingredients in a blender and process until watermelon has been liquefied. Add ice and blend. Garnish (as desired) and serve in chilled glasses.

2. The Poor Man’s Margarita

Purists be damned. This version keeps it simple.

Ingredients:

  • 12-ounces frozen limeade concentrate
  • 12-ounces tequila (top shelf not necessary)
  • 12-ounces Sprite or 7-Up
  • 12-ounces beer (I use Heineken … but any light beer will do)

Directions:

Add all ingredients and stir. Pour over ice to enjoy.

3. Grapefruit-Tequila Fizz

It’s perfect for outdoor gatherings and kicking back on the porch.

Ingredients:

  • Grapefruit wedge
  • Margarita salt
  • Ice cubes
  • ¼-cup fresh red grapefruit juice
  • 3-tablespoons tequila
  • 1 jalapeño pepper slice
  • Citrus soft drink (such as Sunkist)
  • Garnish with red grapefruit wedge, jalapeño pepper slice

Directions:

Rub the rim of a 10-oz. glass with a grapefruit wedge. Dip in margarita salt to coat. Fill glass with ice cubes. Fill a cocktail shaker half full with ice. Add grapefruit juice, tequila, and a jalapeño pepper slice. Cover with lid, and shake vigorously until thoroughly chilled (about 30 seconds). Strain into prepared glass. Top with any citrus soft drink. Garnish, if desired.

4. Michelada

The Mexican morning after equivalent of a Bloody Mary, except it’s lighter and all around better.

Ingredients:

  • 2-tablespoons tomato juice
  • 1-tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1-tablespoon hot sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Ice cubes
  • One 12-ounce bottle cerveza (that is, a pale Mexican beer, nothing dark), chilled
  • 2 lime wedges

Directions:

Pour the tomato juice, lime juice, and hot pepper sauce into a pitcher or very tall glass and stir. Divide the mixture among 2 glasses. Add enough ice cubes to each glass to fill it about 2/3 full. Gradually pour in the beer and serve with a lime wedge on the side.

5. Skip & Go Naked Punch

Equal parts smooth and sneaky. Please enjoy responsibly!

Ingredients:

  • 6 pack of beers
  • 1 can frozen lemonade concentrate (yellow or pink label)
  • 1 pint of vodka (brand does not matter)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a punch bowl, mix, and serve chilled.

6. Frozen Peach Old Fashioned

Served ice cold, this refreshing cocktail is guaranteed to keep you cool.

Ingredients:

  • 2-cups frozen peach slices, slightly thawed
  • 1-cup bourbon
  • 1-cup peach nectar
  • 1-cup peach sorbet, softened
  • 1/2 to 1-teaspoon orange bitters
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 3-tablespoons superfine sugar
  • Garnish if desired with fresh mint sprigs and peach slices

Directions:

Blend first 4 ingredients until combined. Add bitters and salt, then blend until smooth. Stir in sugar. Serve immediately.

7. Sweet Tea Spritzer

If iced tea is the wine of the South, this drink should be its summer sangria.

  • 1-cup sweet tea flavored vodka
  • ½-cup fresh lemon juice
  • Ice
  • 12-ounces Sprite or 7-Up

Directions:
