Reese Witherspoon, in my opinion, is one of the greatest actresses/celebrities of our time, and while she is seemingly always upbeat and happy, she has had her fair share of struggle– and now, she’s opening up about her decision to leave an abusive relationship.

In an interview for O Magazine, Reese didn’t reveal the name of the person, but she did reveal that in a past relationship, when she was very young, her partner was both verbally and psychologically abusive.

“”I drew a line in the sand, and it got crossed, and my brain just switched. I couldn’t go any further. I was really young, and it was profound,” she said. “It changed who I was on a cellular level, the fact that I stood up for myself,” she said. “It’s part of the reason I can stand up and say, ‘Yes, I’m ambitious.’ Because someone tried to take that from me.”

Witherspoon is one of the leading ladies behind the #TimesUp movement that seeks to end injustices for women in the workplace and beyond.

“There are a lot of really good men in the world, but I do think it’s incumbent on women in leadership to rewrite the rules,” she continued in the interview. “We have to get together as groups of women, which is what I’ve been doing with a lot of actresses. It’s been incredibly illuminating.”
