Every year, Southern Living creates an “Idea House” where they try out the latest and greatest in architecture, design and home decor, and this year they decided to build a beach home in Bald Head Island in North Carolina.
According to Southern Living, the beautiful beach house is located about 35 miles south of Wilmington, North Carolina and about 50 miles north of Myrtle Beach. The house is car-free and only accessible by boat, which is what inspired the overall theme for the home: Living freely. Architect Eric Moser designed the home itself while designer Lindsay Coral Harper worked on the interior.
To Moser, it was important that the home fit the feel of the existing community at Bald Head Island. “I wanted to fit a comfortable house in this landscape so it felt like it had been here forever,” he said.
And the designer, who gives the tour of the home, made sure every room in the house had its own unique and stunning details, from pops of brass in the powder room to palm leaf murals painted on the floor upstairs. It has several bedrooms and living spaces, as well as plenty of cozy spots to enjoy the outdoors– like a sleeping porch, a lounging porch, a patio and a backyard. Swoon!
You can actually purchase the floor plans for the not-so-humble abode so you can recreate it for yourself– that is, if you have some (read: a TON) of money burning a hole in your pocket.
