7 of the Weirdest/Coolest Restaurants in the South

-

It’s easy to find a restaurant with good vibes and delicious food, but if you’re looking for a dining experience that’s a little, well, out there, then look no further. We’ve put together a list of some of the strangest/coolest/weirdest restaurants in the South, and you’re going to want to try them all.

7 of the Weirdest/Coolest Restaurants in the South:

1. Rattlesnake Saloon // Tuscumbia, AL

Forget Main Street, the best place for a restaurant is underneath a giant bluff, surrounded by a forest of trees. Visitors to Rattlesnake Saloon can hop in the back of a truck and take a short, steep ride to the restaurant, or ride their horses from the nearby Seven Springs Lodge. The food at Rattlesnake Saloon is good, but the atmosphere is even better. Many nights local bands perform while guests sing and dance and enjoy the great outdoors and good eatings.

2. The Aquarium Restaurant // Houston, Texas; Kemah, Texas; Nashville, Tennessee

You can eat while surrounded by tropical fish, sharks, and stingrays at any one of the Aquarium Restaurants in Texas or Tennessee. Even mermaids have been spotted swimming through the underwater oasis. The only problem? It’s hard to focus on eating when there’s so much to see.

3. Dick’s Last Resort // Dallas, TX; Gatlinburg, TN

If you’re not thick-skinned, don’t go to Dick’s Last Resort where the servers are purposefully obnoxious and rude and do things like scribble insults on a paper hats and give them to customers to wear during dinner. Dinner at Dick’s is rudely served on a picnic table with no napkins. In fact, patrons should beware when asking for napkins. Servers like to throw them unceremoniously at guests. It’s Dick’s Last Resort’s rude style that sets them apart from other restaurants where the “customer is always right.” That’s certainly not the attitude at Dick’s Last Resort.

4. Lambert’s Cafe // Foley, AL; Sikeston, MO; Ozark, MO

Lambert’s Cafe offers Southern country cooking with a side of rolls-– “throwed rolls” to be exact. Staff members don’t just set a basket of rolls on the table, they throw them to customers. This tradition dates back to 1976 when the former manager (and the owner’s son) Norman was overwhelmed with all the cafe’s customers and began throwing fresh rolls to them. It’s tradition that stuck, and one that sets this Southern cafe apart from the rest.

5. Harvey Washbangers // College Station, TX

College students at Texas A&M University don’t have to decide whether to spend the afternoon/evening doing laundry or going out with their friends. At Harvey Washbangers students (and other food/laundry lovers) can eat, drink, and do laundry all at the same time. A light board allows customers to track their laundry’s progress without getting up from the table, so they can go ahead and enjoy their burgers, fries, and chicken wings while their clothes take a trip through the spin cycle.

6. Magic Time Machine // Dallas, TX; San Antonio, TX

This funky, whimsical restaurant with locations in Dallas and San Antonio is a dining experience like no other. Guests sit in areas such as the Sweetheart’s Table, the Attic, a Thatched Hut, a Carousel, or even an Old Refrigerator, and the salad bar is actually a 1952 MG-TD Roadster that has been modified to serve as a soup and salad bar. Servers dress in all sorts of imaginative and hilarious costumes, and their job is not only to bring guests food but also to keep everyone laughing and having fun.

7. Polaris // Atlanta, GA

This rotating restaurant on top of the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Atlanta offers a stunning 360 degree view of the city, completing one rotation every 45 minutes. The view is breathtaking, and the outside of the building looks like a flying saucer. It’s a one-of-a-kind place to enjoy cocktails and dinner with friends or loved ones.
