It’s tee time! That means one thing– Masters Week(end) in Augusta, Georgia. You can make a safe bet that more than a few country music singers and musicians will be tuning in to all the action. Why you may ask?  Because there are some country singers who just can’t get enough of chasing that little white ball around the greens.  And like John Anderson co-wrote and recorded in 1983, they love “Swingin’.” Their irons, that is.  Not only do they swing those irons, but they also know a thing or two about putters and wedges, too.

So, what is it about golf that draws these singers and musicians? Vince Gill told Golf Digest, “Musicians and golfers understand each other. We know what it takes to have to perform. We know there’s a lot of alone time.”

Obviously, we know that Vince knows how to perform and sing like an angel, but he also knows his way around the golf course. He is the best golfer in country music or any music, for that matter, according to Golf Digest back in October of 2014. Colt Ford comes in a close second and for good reason– he played briefly on the National Tour as did Jason Farris Brown.  They aren’t the only ones, either.  Had it not been for an injury, Jake Owen might very well be playing professional golf instead of cranking out tunes like “Beachin’”or “What We Ain’t Got.  Others to make the list are Charles Kelley, Clay Walker, Joe Don Rooney, and Darius Rucker.  All of these fellows have serious golf game.

Golfin’ with Dallas Davidson and my man Charles Kelley of @ladyantebellum. I got whipped today.

Some others that make the top 100 list of music’s best golfers are Toby Keith and Willie Nelson. In fact, they love the game of golf so much that they both own their own golf course. Willie Nelson’s Cut-N-Putt or Pedernales Golf Club is in Texas, and Toby Keith’s Belmar Golf Club is in central Oklahoma. Now, that’s love! Further down the list, but still very impressive are the likes of George Strait, John Michael Montgomery, Thomas Rhett, Randy Houser, Trace Adkins, Kix Brooks, Joe Diffie, and Eric Church.

Take a look at the video below. Thomas is taking on some really tough competition, but he seems to really be enjoying himself at the Athens Golf Club.

So, Bubba Watson, Rory McElroy, and Tiger Woods be warned.  These fellows know their country music, but they also “got game” when it comes to golf. And you never know, after they finishing cranking out country music hits, you might just find them out on the links.
