We knew it was going to be good, but we weren’t expecting it to bring us to tears. Tim McGraw nailed his performance of Glen Campbell’s “I’m Not Gonna Miss You.” Campbell wrote the song with Julian Raymond as a love letter to his family.
McGraw took the stage in his signature black cowboy hat, but chose to leave his guitar behind so as not to distract from the poignant moment. When he was done, there wasn’t a dry eye in the audience.
Glen Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011 and for the first time, he was unable to attend the awards show. His family hand chose Tim McGraw to sing the Oscar-nominated song. Earlier in the week McGraw tweeted,”I’m honored to be asked to sing the powerful song from one of the true legends of the music industry.”
And based on what we saw, Glen Campbell would be a very proud man.
