Alejandro Aranda walked onto the small audition stage of American Idol with his eyes centered on his feet and his guitar, looking like a guy who didn’t just have much in store for judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry.
But then, Aranda started playing and it became quite evident that another superstar had just walked in the room.
“I just feel like I’m in the presence of greatness,” Bryan told the former warehouse worker who, until then, played his music on the streets of California. “It was like watching my favorite movie.”
The statement came on the Wednesday (March 6) episode of the singing competition show, as Aranda played his original song “Out Loud” on his guitar and “Cholo Love” on the piano.
“You, my friend, are so talented,” Richie told the 24-year-old.
Perry even went on saying that she was ready to quit, teasing the feeling that the panel may have thought they had just found their winner. Granted, we are very early on in the show and granted, while Aranda is in fact on his way to Hollywood, you just never know how people will do during the grueling group rounds.
“Ok Alejandro, I think you’re the winner. I think you’re really special. I think you’re an absolute genius,” Perry said.
Make no mistake, this guy is a star, whether he believes it himself or not.
American Idol returns on Sunday (March 10.)
