Sussett, who moved to Miami 3 years ago from Venezuela, sang Selena’s “Techno Cumbia,” but doing about 30 seconds of the tune, she turned on her boombox and told the judges to get up and “come on, baby! Shoulders like this!”
Obviously, Luke Bryan went for it, but really only had one move that involved taking off his jacket.
Lionel Richie really got out there and went for the performance factor, but he kind of looked like the 68-year-old man he is– the dramatics were there though.
The real storm blew in when Katy Perry, pop superstar, joined Sussett on the floor. At first, Perry tried to act too cool (which is her schtick on the show, by the way). Eventually, she let loose a little bit, but then… she fell. And since she was wearing a really tight cocktail dress and heels, it was almost impossible for her to get up. With a little help from Richie and Bryan, she was able to recover, but the show did not edit out the crew laughing at her. Which was an actual blessing for viewers.
Finally, it was time to vote.
Perry started it off by saying, “Listen, Michelle… a lot of people come in here with a lot of fear, you’ve got none. You’re not annoying, it’s like, cute, it’s fun. You make people happy.”
Richie added, “I love your personality, you are a welcome sight.”
All three judges were a yes, though Perry said she probably wouldn’t be competitive.
