Aretha Franklin Reportedly “Gravely Ill” As Family Asks For Prayers

It’s rare to meet someone who doesn’t love and respect “The Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin— and now, she’s in need of prayers and well wishes.

According to Local 4 in Detroit, Aretha Franklin is gravely ill. WDIV morning anchor Evrod Cassimy took to Twitter to share the breaking news, saying, “I am so saddened to report that the Queen of Soul and my good friend, Aretha Franklin is gravely ill. I spoke with her family members this morning. She is asking for your prayers at this time. I’ll have more details as I’m allowed to release.”

Aretha Franklin is currently 76 years old. Last year, she shared the news that she’d planned to retire after releasing an album last September. “This will be my last year. I will be recording, but this will be my last year in concert. This is it,” she said at the time.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Aretha Franklin and her family at this time.
