On Monday, October 15, news began circulating that Ariana Grande and Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson had split, ending their whirlwind engagement after a mere few months.
Both Pete and Ariana stayed quiet on the matter— but Ariana took to social media the following day to share that she would be taking part in the 15-year celebration of her “favorite musical of all time,” Wicked, taking on the part of Elphaba and singing “The Wizard and I” for A Very Wicked Halloween special.
She shared photos of her rocking green sparkly lipstick, giving a glam twist on the green-faced character.
She then shared a post on her Instagram (which has since been deleted), saying she needed to take a break from social media amid all of the chaos of her split from Pete.
“Time to say bye bye again to the Internet for just a bit. It’s hard not to bump [into] news and stuff that I’m not trying to see,” she said. “It’s very sad and we’re all trying very hard to keep going.”
She then thanked her fans for their continued support.
“Love you, and thank you for being here always.”
The reason for Pete and Ariana’s split has yet to be shared, but she is undoubtedly going through an incredibly hard time after her ex Mac Miller’s death in September following an apparent overdose.
After his passing, Ariana took to Instagram to share a sweet message to her “dearest friend,” saying, “I’m so sorry I couldn’t fix or take your pain away. I really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. I hope you’re okay now. Rest.”
