On the very same night Jed Wyatt could be seen on The Bachelorette taking his love Hannah Brown home to meet his family, who weren’t all that impressed with Hannah, the much-talked about contestant was also doing his best to protect his family from the haters.

In a post on Instagram, Jed shared some heartfelt words alongside a photo of his family.

“I ask that you please understand how much the actions being taken towards myself, my family, the men on the show, and above all, Hannah, are affecting all of our mental and physical health,” Wyatt wrote. “It goes beyond what is said online. Threatening letters and phone calls have been sent to our homes. My parents and sister are being verbally attacked in public. I beg you to remember what seems like a harmless action is damaging to real people.”

Hi y’all. Several of you have reached out with messages and questions. Please know I’m not able to answer right now, but as soon as I’m able to, I will. •Until then, I ask that you please understand how much the actions being taken towards myself, my family, the men on the show, and above all, Hannah, are affecting all of our mental and physical health. •It goes beyond what is said online. Threatening letters and phone calls have been sent to our homes. My parents and sister are being verbally attacked in public. I beg you to remember what seems like a harmless action is damaging to real people. •I want to thank all of you who have reached out or reserved judgement until I am able to speak openly and I can only ask for your patience and kindness until then.

Indeed, The Bachelorette contestant has been in the center of much controversy this year after an ex-girlfriend by the name of Haley Stevens told People magazine that he was still in a relationship with her when he left to begin filming the dating show.

“We spent the night together the night before he headed to L.A.” Stevens told the magazine exclusively. “He told me [the show] was just an obstacle and we’d be stronger on the other side because of it.”

It’s often a requirement for contestants to stay fairly quiet about any outside news such as this until the show reaches his conclusion. And from the sounds of it, Wyatt just might have a ton to say once the show is through.

“I want to thank all of you who have reached out or reserved judgment until I am able to speak openly and I can only ask for your patience and kindness until then,” said Wyatt, who is one of the last four remaining contestants still vying for the heart of Brown.
