After news broke that former Bachelor contestant Lauren Bushnell got engaged to country singer Chris Lane, Lauren’s former fiancé Ben Higgins reacted to the news on his podcast The Ben & Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast.
Ben famously proposed to Lauren during season 20 of The Bachelor, just days after telling JoJo Fletcher that he loved her, before breaking up with her.
On the podcast, Ashley Iaconetti broached the subject with Ben on the podcast saying, “Your ex-fiancé, Lauren Bushnell, got engaged to her country boyfriend Chris Lane,” and then asked Ben if he had any thoughts on the news. And Ben did.
“I do feel something towards it, my life will always be tied at some level to Lauren and Lauren’s to mine, that’s just part of it when you’re engaged for a period of time or when you have a serious relationship at any point in your life,” Ben explained. “You have a piece of them with you.”
He continued, “There’s two ways to leave relationships, you leave them maybe angry and resentful or you leave them knowing it was for the best and that the world and life will offer you great things afterwards. And that’s how Lauren and I left our relationship. It wasn’t easy and it wasn’t always clean and we had our moments and it was sad and it was hard and it broke my heart and I’m sure at some level broke hers also. But ultimately we left that relationship saying, ‘I hope life brings you a ton of joy, I don’t want you upset and alone forever. I hope everything that you want in this world that is healthy and good is given to you.’ and that’s exactly how I feel.”
The 30-year-old then turned his attention to Lauren with a message for her.
“To go to Lauren, Lauren Congratulations,” he said. “We are thrilled for you. You found a man that you love and without any pressure and in a moment after dating for a long time. You have said yes to spending your life with him and I could not be more excited for you. I want nothing but joy and everything you ever wanted that our relationship would never have brought you . And Chris, Congratulations.”
Ben also went o to say that he hopes this will be the end to all the questions about his relationship with Lauren. Now that she is engaged and he is in a relationship with girlfriend Jessica Clarke, we can all move on.
“The second piece of this is that I hope for Lauren and myself is that my life isn’t as closely tied to Lauren anymore,” Ben added. “I hope that this separates us. I hope that when something like this happens the first phone call that the press makes is not to me. I think it’s great and I think that it’s good and I think it brings joy to me because I am so happy and I am so fulfilled and I found an amazing woman to spend my time with and Lauren has now found an amazing man to spend her life with and we’re gonna move on. And it’s good for all.”

“In summary, Lauren congrats. Chris congrats,” he concluded. “We wish you the best, I wish you the best, my family wishes you the best, Jessica wishes you the best. And next, I hope this is a chapter being closed, because I don’t know Lauren anymore and my life isn’t tied to her.”
There you have it.
