The tragic story that began with the untimely death of music legend Whitney Houston back in 2012 continues now with the death of her late daughter’s boyfriend.

According to People magazine, Nick Gordon passed away Wednesday (Jan. 1) as a result of a drug overdose. Many will remember that Gordon was the ex-boyfriend of Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, who passed away in 2015.

“We are devastated by the loss of my beautiful brother,” Gordon’s brother Jack Walker Jr. tells the magazine. “He leaves a void in the hearts of my family and his friends. Nick’s battle in life was not an easy one. I will be forever grateful that my God afforded a small moment at the very end of Nick’s life, and I was able to hold his hand as he journeyed on.”

“My heart is heavy today after learning that my long time client Nick Gordon died at the young age of thirty,” Gordon’s lawyer Joe S. Hibachi also told the outlet. “While I cannot speak to the specific circumstances of his death, I can say that it’s been truly heartbreaking to have witnessed first hand the total devastation that drug addiction has wreaked upon a group of young friends, all of whom were loved and had immense potential.”

Just three years ago, Gordon was found liable in the wrongful death case of Brown, who was found unconscious and unresponsive in a bath tub with drugs in her system. Gordon was instructed to pay $36 million to Brown’s estate as a result of the court decision.
