“Cameron’s tragic passing was due to a seizure as a result of an ongoing medical condition, and that condition was epilepsy,” a family spokesperson said in a statement. “We are still trying to navigate our way through this extremely heart wrenching time, and continue to ask for privacy so that the family, and all who knew and loved him can grieve his loss and make arrangements for his funeral—which in and of itself, is agonizing.”

On Monday (July 8,) the Los Angeles Count Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner revealed in a press release that an autopsy has now been conducted but results will be held as a further investigation takes place. Cameron was found unresponsive in his home located in North Hollywood.

Following Cameron’s death, his father Victor and costars shared their thoughts about the loss of their family member and friend.

“I’m overwhelmed with the love and support our family has received,” Victor wrote on his Twitter page. “It really does help to ease the pain of this nightmare I can’t wake up from. I can’t thank you guys enough.”

Cameron’s co-star in The Descendants, Dove Cameron took to Instagram with an emotional video to share her feelings, that she found difficult to express.

“I’ve been unsuccessful thinking about trying to summarize something where there are no adequate words in the English language,” she shared in the video. “I’ve never stuttered or been unable to speak before these last few days. My system is still in shock, my brain is still foggy and full of holes. But I’m going to try to write.”

She went on, “To Victor and Libby and Maya you are all I can think about. My heart aches for you, I’m broken for you. I have close to nothing left. Which tells me some small percentage of what you must be feeling. I’m so sorry. I will never have enough words for the pain I feel and the love in the space in my heart that I hold for you.”

“Cameron was one of my favorite people alive in the world, though I know that’s not unique to me. Cameron was magic, an earth angel,” she added. “Over the last six years, since he was only fourteen, Cameron talked me down from countless ledges, talked me through eating disorders, helped me out of a dark relationship and through endless break downs. He would whisper the dance move to me on live television when I didn’t know what I was doing or hold my hand quietly to communicate wordlessly when we both knew we were thinking the same thing.  I can’t count the amount of times on my hands we ruined something because we couldn’t stop making each other laugh…

“What was special about Cameron was who he was in the small moments when maybe no one was looking. The moments in between the big ones when he din’t have to be good or kind. Cameron was always good and kind. He was selfless and generous he was magnanimous.”

Cameron concluded her tear filled message with, “Goodbye my dear, dear friend and brother. You leave behind a colossal wake, a profound chasm that can never be filled. But you also leave millions and millions of deeply impacted hope-filled and love-filled human beings who are who they are because of you and how you spent your brief 20 years on this earth. What a gift you were. You turned the world on it’s head. We can all only hope to be half of the human you were. You deserved so much more time. Goodbye earth angel. I will spend the rest of my life missing and loving you and all the better for knowing you.”
