When your name is Ellen DeGeneres and you could have almost anything in the world, it can be tough to receive a gift that takes your breath away. Yet, that’s exactly what happened earlier this year, when the talk show host’s wife Portia De Rossi presented her with the most priceless gifts of all.
On the occasion of DeGeneres 60th birthday, De Rossi informed her wife that she has set up The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund, which would go on to support conservation efforts for critically endangered species. As part of the gift that DeGeneres called her best one yet, the foundation would also go on to build a permanent home for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.
“Thank you, Angela and Robert for an incredible day at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust,” DeGeneres wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday (June 3) alongside a picture of her and wife Portia. “What you’re doing to help elephants is important and amazing.”
DeGeneres also shared a number of other pics of their African getaway, looking both content and happy at the time spent together.

I loved meeting the President of Rwanda. Thank you, @PaulKagame, for supporting @EDWildlifeFund and gorilla conservation. #Repost @paulkagame ・・・ “Encouraging to see the mountain gorilla population in the Virungas has grown 25% in the last eight years. Conservation efforts must continue. Thank you @TheEllenShow & Portia for coming to Rwanda & getting involved. #VisitRwanda” -President Kagame tweets on meeting with Ellen DeGeneres host of @TheEllenShow and Portia De Rossi.
The trip served as just another part of this exciting time for the couple, as Variety reported on last month that the couple had sole their Montecito, California retreat for a cool $11 million dollars.
