As Jussie Smollett continues to be embroiled in controversy after being charged with 16 counts of filing a false police report, many people speculated on whether or not the “Empire” actor would make an appearance at the the NAACP Image Awards Sunday Night (March 31), for which Jussie was nominated. While the actor did not show up for the awards show, presenter Chris Rock just couldn’t resist a good joke about the actor.
“They said no Jussie Smollett jokes,” Chris began. “I know, what a waist of light skin, ya know. You know what I could do with that light skin—that curly hair, my career would be outta here. F**** running Hollywood.”
As the crowd broke out into laughter, Chris went on. “No Jussie jokes,” he laughed. “What the hell was he thinking. From now on you Jessie from now on. You don’t even get the U no more. That U was respect. You ain’t getting no respect from me.”
To add insult to injury, Jussie lost the supporting actor award to Jesse Williams, who plays Avery Jackson on Grey’s Anatomy.
On Tuesday (March 26), Cook County prosecutors dropped all charges against “Empire” actor, who was facing 16 felony counts of “Disorderly Conduct / Filing a False Police Report.” Jussie was cleared of allegedly lying to police about being attacked by two men on January 29. The men allegedly beat Jussie, poured bleach on him, put a noose around his neck and yelled this is MAGA county, in reference to President Trumps slogan Make America Great Again.
