Things weren’t going so well for Chrissy Metz when she auditioned for the role of Kate Pearson on “This Is Us.” She literally had $.81 to her name.

On top of that, she didn’t think didn’t think she’d have enough gas to even get to the audition. This is Los Angeles, you probably waste more gas sitting in traffic on The 110 than you do actually getting from point A to point B.

So, after her second audition, when she knew that it was just between her and one other person, she saw a “weird number” and immediately thought, “It’s a bill collector, I’m not answering.”

She called her agent and was telling him how bad she did in the audition when the “weird number” called back. She took the call and it turned out to be the creator of “This Is Us.” But she was in a parking structure so it kept cutting out and all she heard was “we just wanted to let you know …” and then it cut out.
