Bachelor hunk Colton Underwood says he once questioned his sexuality. And no, we can’t believe it either.

“It was one of those things where you hear something so often, you start believing it,” Underwood says about times in high school when people questioned his sexuality since he was abstaining from sex. “I thought, maybe I am gay. The captain of the football team should be having sex and drinking, right? But I wasn’t.”

It’s a revelation that Underwood dives into in his new book The First Time. And according to him, it wasn’t the only time that he found himself the victim of bullying by his peers.

“I didn’t know who I was,” Underwood writes. “And I come from an athletic family, so it was always, ‘Move on, you’re good.’ So that threw me off. In high school, when I was struggling with my sexuality, I’m not going to talk to my parents about it. So I internalized it.”

“I was called fatso, four eyes and four lips, because I used to lick my lips, so I would constantly have a red ring around them,” Underwood tells People magazine. “I was a little heavy, and that, combined with being socially awkward, led to a really hard time. I didn’t believe in myself. And I was super insecure.”

Of course, now Underwood finds himself in the loving arms of girlfriend Cassie Randolph, whom he met when he appeared on The Bachelor. (Remember the famous jump the fence scene? He did it for Cassie.) He was also touted for being the first virgin Bachelor the show had cast. Prior to his stint on The Bachelor, Colton dated gymnast Aly Raisman and was one of many men vying for Becca Kurfin’s heart on  The Bachelorette.

On Wednesday (March 26,) Underwood went to Instagram to tell fans that he is slowly recovering from a bout with the coronavirus.

“Today, I woke up seeing light at the end of the tunnel,” he wrote. “I had my best sleep in more than a week and feel closer to my normal self. I still have a mild cough but the aches and pains are gone. I’m just feeling grateful right now that I still have a life. I realize that my case was not as severe as others and I am lucky we managed it at home. I am in awe of the doctors and nurses who are on the front lines saving lives and the grocery checkers and truckers and everyone else helping people stay fed and comforted. We’ve learned that superheroes are real, not just in the movies. I never thought I’d know as much about supply chains or use the phrase “flatten the curve” when not referring to my stomach after a big meal. Please continue to practice kindness. Keep a distance. Stay safe. Let’s shut this thing down and put it in our rearview mirror. We’re all in this together.”

Get well Colton.
