The world was shocked when news broke that Luke Perry died after suffering a massive stroke on Monday (March 4).
Fans, friends and family took to social media to share their feelings about the actor. But his co-stars through the years had a lot to share about the loss of their friend.
Luke Perry became a household name when he starred as Dylan McKay, every young ’90s girl’s bad boy crush, on the primetime drama Beverly Hills 90210, along with cast mates Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris and Jason Priestly. He also melted hearts as Pike, Kristy Swanson’s love interest, in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, before gaining a whole new legion of fans in the CW’s Riverdale, where he played Archie’s dad, Fred Andrews.
Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty and Tori Spelling, who played Kelly Taylor, Brenda Walsh and Donna Martin, respectively, on Beverly Hills 90210 shared their feelings of the loss of their friend. As well as Luke’s co-stars throughout his career.
Jennie, Shannen and Tori shared exclusive statements to PEOPLE.
“I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind,” Shannen shared with the magazine. “Luke was a smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love. Luke reached out to me during my cancer journey and we picked right back up, albeit older and wiser, but that connection remained intact. There is a special kind of love one has for each other when you are experiencing the journey we did on 90210 and of course life in general. Luke and I were working on show ideas for us. We wanted to work with each other again and create something special and meaningful for our fans at this stage in our lives. I will miss him every day. Every minute. Every second.”
Jennie shared, “My heart is broken. He meant so much to so many. Such a very special person. I share my deep sadness with his family and all who loved him. Such a terrible loss.”Jennie Garth tells People
“I’m in utter shock and heartbroken. I’m saddened for his kids whom he adored beyond words. He was so proud of Jack and Sophie,” Tori told the magazine. “Luke was one of the kindest and most humble human beings I’ve ever known. I’m grateful for the years of friendship we had. He truly was family to me, a protector and a brother. I’m so sorry for the loss that everyone is experiencing.”
Gabrielle Carteris, Andrea Zuckerman on 90210, shared her statement with Entertainment Weekly.
“I am absolutely heartbroken. Luke was a tremendous force in the lives of so many,” Gabrielle said. “He was a very sensitive soul who was kind, generous and he fought for the underdog. He was a strong voice and an advocate who will be so missed by all who knew him. He has left his mark – never to be forgotten. My heart goes out to his family, friends and fans around the globe.”
His Riverdale co-stars took to social media to remember their co-worker and friend.
Lili Reinhart, Betty Cooper in Riverdale, said, “I’m finding it hard to grasp that he will no longer be around to give long hugs and share his wisdom and kindness with all of us. I’m thinking of his family. His children. I pray for them to heal and find peace in this devastating loss.

Madchen Amick, Alice Cooper on Riverdale.
“I’m absolutely heartbroken of the news that we lost someone so incredibly special. Luke had become a dear friend. We laughed. We cried. We shared our showbiz war stories. We shared how proud we are as parents. I knew that he was always there for me no matter what. I’m so thankful for the time that we had together. He was an incredibly loving and generous man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family right now. I will love you forever Luke.”
